Recorded @ The Phudd Phactory
Produced, Engineered & Mastered by Phil Judd
Way out in the desert in the heart of Arizona
Sou'west of Sedona, Skull Valley way
thumpin' on his typewriter in the middle of the night
ole Cooter Brown has a mighty tale to tell
"yeah I found her half alive under a violet prickly pear
she done skedaddled from her apache man
she's beaten somethin' wicked, injun woman
by the name of Maa-Ya-Ha"
"now I had me some string and some chewin' gum
and I patched her all up just like a new one
oh Maa-Ya-Ha... gimme one sweet kiss my Maa-Ya-Ha"
"why even a blind squirrel finds a nut ev'ry now 'n again
why... when I found her, I's as happy as a tick on a fat dog
yeah I's as happy as a pig in the sunshine
oh man, she took a liking to the white man's ways
she loved her soda pop and pie
within ten years she got so fat
she got diabetes and... ohhh ! Ma-Ya-Ha"

It's just so easy for Martin Phillips, innit? Even after more than 30 years, he's writing the kind of effortless melodies that most songwriters would kill for. So this is just another perfect pop record to add to their discography. This will easily be a top 10 of the year.

Finally had a chance to sit with this whole album, and wow, congrats to Steve and Frank for delivering such an impressive and glorious work! Great Kilbey poetry throughout, as usual, and some classic dream pop guitar sounds. But this isn't a retro project. The vibe is 110% NOW. I'm in love with "Words are Wasted," but you can't skip to it. You got to earn it through the journey. I'm going to be processing this one for a good long while; in the meantime, hope you'll do another! Trace Reddell
