For me, there’s a sense of emptiness and loneliness with the music & lyrics but with an underlining sense of contentment and possibility. I think it’s an almost perfect soundtrack to the lockdown.

I love the segment of Baby & the Bathwater leading into the gorgeous Play it Strange and ending in Tranquillina. I am also currently submerged in Love Crusade & Kite Flying Day.

Kish Kollektiv Another fascinating solo release from the NZ veteran and co-founder of a wider musical dynasty that has endured. In excellent form, he pushes boundaries as always but simultaneously achieves considerable accessibility if you allow his compositions to worm their way in. Highlights: partial Split Enz reunion "Baby & The Bathwater" is a beautiful melancholy creation, the title track, catchy tunes "Sense of Humour" and "Salamander Man" while "Castle of Regret" has some lovely guitar work. Favorite track: Baby & the Bathwater.

'Play it Strange' - the name is legendary among fans of Phil Judd's former band, Split Enz.

A song born from a late 70s demo tape, performed at only a handful of gigs in Europe before Phil left the band for good. A few scratchy tapes have surfaced of those performances, but now the song is reborn for a new century, living at the heart of Phil's new album.
